Take your UL Listing to Europe
Your UL Listing is a great first step to meeting the CE Marking Requirements and your UL Product Description goes a long way to completing your (mandatory) CE Marking Technical File.
Compliance with UL regulations by itself will not meet the need. You will need to add to your previous documentation, for a number of reasons:
- In addition to the standards used for your UL Listing, you must declare the Harmonized Standard you are using for compliance – this should be easy. Buy a copy of the Harmonized Standard – you will need it for reference.
- CE Marking (EN standards) requires that Critical Components comply with the relevant IEC Standard and be rated for the relevant operating voltage/current. Components with only UL Recognition marks must be replaced.
- In addition to the testing required for your UL Listing, testing MUST be carried out at the European voltage of 230V ±10% 50 Hz. The good news is that for most products you can do the testing yourself in you factory. Remember that the higher voltage can cause electric shock and the lower frequency can cause overheating and fire.
